Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s new Netflix docuseries Polo offers a glimpse into the glamorous world of the equestrian sport that the Duke of Sussex plays, but the Duchess of Sussex also gets the chance to display one of her talents.
Premiering on December 10, Polo is a five-episode documentary from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Archewell Productions. The series follows top polo players as they prepare for the 2024 U.S. Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida.
It also features Prince Harry, 40, riding in the Royal Salute Polo Challenge in April, which benefits his charity, Sentebale. Meghan, 43, shows off her Spanish-speaking skills during this segment.
In one scene, Meghan meets renowned polo player Adolfo Cambiaso on the sidelines of a match, where Cambiaso was playing alongside Prince Harry. He extended his hand for a handshake, but Meghan embraced him instead. Prince Harry, proudly pointing out her talent, remarked, «She’s fluent in Spanish.»
«Really?» Cambiaso, 49, responded in Spanish, before the two continued their conversation in the language.
A lesser-known fact about the Duchess of Sussex is that she is fluent in Spanish, a skill she developed during her internship in Argentina and while studying abroad in Madrid, Spain.
Meghan showcased her Spanish skills during their trip to Colombia with Prince Harry in August. During the visit, the Duke of Sussex followed Meghan’s example and also embraced speaking Spanish.
In a humorous moment, Meghan mimed wiping sweat from her forehead after speaking in Spanish, prompting applause from the crowd before she switched back to English.
The couple’s trip to Colombia marked one of their most significant joint engagements in recent months, and Polo on Netflix is their latest shared creative project.
Both Prince Harry and Meghan served as executive producers for the series, and showrunner and executive producer Miloš Balać shared that it was «wonderful» collaborating with them.
