Angelina Jolie Shares the Reason Behind Selling the First Photos of Twins Vivienne and Knox
Angelina Jolie opened up about the decision to sell the first photos of her newborn twins, Knox and Vivienne, in 2008, revealing that it was driven by a sense of responsibility and safety.
During a panel discussion at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Wednesday, Feb. 5, the Maria star, 49, addressed the reasoning behind her and then-husband Brad Pitt’s choice to sell the photos to benefit charity.
She explained, «It was a strange thing to do, but ultimately, it seemed like the best option for their safety.
Someone was coming for them, and it raised concerns about their well-being.»
Jolie emphasized that selling the photos was a way to control the situation in a secure and responsible manner.
«It was important to ensure that it was done safely, and if we could turn it into something positive, even better.»
The funds from the photo sale were donated to The Jolie-Pitt Foundation, the charity established by the couple.
Jolie and Pitt, who share six children — Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 18, and the twins, Knox and Vivienne, 16 — have consistently prioritized their children’s safety and privacy.
Later in the panel, Jolie discussed whether her children might pursue careers in the entertainment industry, noting that none of them showed a strong interest in acting.
«No, that’s not something I’m pushing,» she said.
«I wanted them to be exposed to film because it’s a beautiful way to express creativity, but they’re not interested.»
She went on to share that while her children aren’t keen on the celebrity aspect of her career, they still appreciate the arts in their own ways.
«They’ve been on set with me,» Jolie said. «Some of them enjoy dancing, some like painting, others are passionate about theater.
But none of them are eager to step in front of the camera.»
