My CEO Husband Left Me Home in an Old Dress While Taking His Mistress to a Lavish Gala—So I Made One Call to the Father I’d Kept Secret for Three Years

“You’re really planning to wear that?”

Julian Cross looked me up and down with open contempt.

I stood in front of the mirror wearing my old navy dress—the one I’d owned long before becoming his wife.

Tonight was the Apex Group Charity Gala, one of the most prestigious events of the year. But Julian wasn’t taking me. He was taking Chloe. His mistress.

She stood beside him in a breathtaking designer gown, diamonds glittering around her neck and wrists.

The way Julian looked at her made my chest ache. He had never looked at me that way.

“You should stay home, Clarissa,” Chloe said with a smug smile. “You’d only make Julian uncomfortable.”

Julian didn’t defend me. He simply adjusted his cufflinks and walked out with her.

I stood there silently as their car disappeared through the gates. A few minutes later, my phone buzzed. It was Chloe.

She had sent me a picture from the back seat of Julian’s car.

Her head rested against his shoulder. Tonight, he’ll finally be completely mine.

I stared at the message. Then something inside me went completely still.

For three years, I’d hidden the truth about where I came from.

I had never told Julian my real family name. Never asked him for money. Never used my family’s influence or connections.

I wanted to know whether he could love me without knowing what I had. Apparently, I had my answer.

I walked into my bedroom and opened a drawer I hadn’t touched in years.

At the very back sat a small red velvet box. Inside was an old SIM card.

I’d kept it untouched for three years. There was only one number stored on it. Dad.

My fingers trembled as I made the call. He answered almost immediately. “Hello?” I swallowed.

“Dad…” There was a long silence. Then his voice changed. “Clarissa?” My eyes filled with tears.

“Dad… I want to come home.” For several seconds, he said nothing.

Then Arthur Vance—the billionaire businessman whose name could open almost any door in the state—spoke softly.

“My little girl…” His voice broke slightly. “I’m coming for you.”

I didn’t expect what happened next. Minutes later, a Bentley pulled up outside the house.

A driver stepped out, followed by stylists carrying garment bags filled with designer gowns. Another case contained jewelry.

I almost laughed. For three years, I’d tried to live like I had nothing. Tonight, I finally stopped hiding.

I slipped into a breathtaking crimson silk gown and fastened my mother’s diamonds around my neck.  Then I went to the gala.

The moment I entered the ballroom, the conversations around me faded. Heads turned.

Whispers spread through the crowd. And then Julian saw me. His expression changed instantly.

“Clarissa?” He stared at my dress, then at the diamonds. “What are you doing here? Where did you even get those?”

I calmly looked at him. “I dressed for the occasion.” Chloe’s face twisted with anger. “Security!” I smiled.

“Be careful what you ask them to do, Chloe. You might be surprised to learn who actually owns this venue.”

Before she could respond, a deep voice echoed behind us. “You won’t be terminating anything, Mr. Cross.”

Julian turned. And the color drained from his face. Arthur Vance walked into the ballroom. Julian knew exactly who he was.

He had spent months trying to win Vance Global’s investment and secure a major business partnership.

My father walked straight past him. He came to me, placed both hands on my shoulders, and smiled.

“Look at you.” His eyes softened. “You look just like your mother.” Julian stared at us in disbelief.

“Mr. Vance…” His voice barely came out. “She’s your daughter?” Arthur turned toward the stunned crowd.  “Yes.”

He slipped an arm around me. “Clarissa Vance is my only daughter—and the sole heir to Vance Global.” The ballroom erupted.

People began whispering. Phones came out. Julian looked as if the floor had disappeared beneath him.

“Clarissa, I swear I didn’t know,” he pleaded. “If I’d known who you were—” I stopped him.

“If you had known, you would’ve pretended to love me.” He had nothing to say. Then my father’s attorney stepped forward.

“Mr. Cross, you are being formally served with divorce papers.” Julian’s eyes widened. The attorney continued.

“Additionally, Vance Global is terminating all business agreements with Cross Logistics. The company’s accounts are being frozen pending a full financial investigation.”

Julian’s face turned white. Within minutes, the empire he had spent years building began unraveling.

He dropped to his knees. “Clarissa, please. Give me another chance.” I looked at him without anger.

“I didn’t destroy your company, Julian.” I paused.

“You destroyed yourself the moment you decided someone’s value could be measured by a dress.” Then I turned away.

My father placed his hand gently on my back. We walked out of the ballroom together.

For the first time in three years, I wasn’t hiding. I wasn’t pretending. I wasn’t making myself smaller so someone else could feel important.

I was simply Clarissa. Arthur Vance’s daughter. And finally, I was going home.

“Welcome home, sweetheart,” Dad whispered.

I smiled through my tears. “It feels good to be home, Dad.”
