The Deeper Meaning of Kate Middleton’s Festival of Remembrance Look: An Inside Look at Her Fashion

It appeared as though Princess Kate reached for Princess Diana’s old earrings.

At her first significant royal function following chemotherapy, Kate Middleton made a discreet dress statement.

The 42-year-old Princess of Wales attended the Festival of Remembrance at London’s Royal Albert Hall on November 9 together with Prince William, King Charles, and other royal family members. In keeping with custom, the royal family joined forces to support the Royal British Legion’s yearly celebration of the sacrifices and service of the members of the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces.

In addition to more recent military achievements, this year’s festival honored the accomplishments of the World War II generation during the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings.

Princess Kate may have been sending a statement with her outfit, which made the outing her first formal royal function since she announced on September 9 that she had finished chemotherapy.

Princess Kate donned all black as a sign of respect and to demonstrate uniformity, as was customary for the somber occasion.

She accessorized a fitted dress with matching shoes and hose, as well as a quilted purse. Her wavy, side-parted hairdo highlighted a unique piece of jewelry that seemed to be Princess Diana’s old Collingwood pearl earrings.

The Princess of Wales finished the ensemble with a significant pop of her Fleet Air Arm brooch and another item already in her jewelry box: the Nura pearl necklace from British brand Monica Vinader.

In 2023, Princess Kate was named Commodore-in-Chief of the Fleet Air Arm. On Remembrance Sunday, she wore the golden winged pin with her poppies.

She also wore her well-known sapphire engagement ring, which she changed up this year. In the video she released to announce that she had finished chemotherapy, Princess Kate was seen wearing and not wearing the famous sparkler that had formerly belonged to her late mother-in-law.

It was not part of the dazzling ring stack seen on her left ring finger.

Princess Kate wore the late Queen Elizabeth’s three-strand pearl necklace and diamond and pearl earrings as particularly poignant accessories during the Festival of Remembrance in November 2023.

After becoming the Princess of Wales, Princess Kate changed her look, going from fitted suits to bolder jewelry and more vibrant colors.

According to Holt, the fashion director of the Daily Telegraph, «I think this is her power moment — she’s easing into the Princess of Wales role and that promotion that she’s had in such a beautiful way,» in 2023. «She’s got this big new title, and she’s dressing for that job.»
