Sofía Salvatierra turned ten, yet in the middle of her lavish birthday celebration she felt almost invisible.
Seated in her wheelchair beside an enormous cake, she watched other children laughing, running, and playing together—none of them intentionally ignoring her, but none of them remembering to include her either.
