Taylor Swift and Cynthia Erivo Shared a Single Seat at the Grammys – Here’s the Reason!
Taylor Swift and Cynthia Erivo Break the Seating Rules at the Grammys—But for a Sweet Reason!
At the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 2, pop sensation Taylor Swift and Wicked star Cynthia Erivo may have had their designated seats at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, but that didn’t stop them from sharing just one!
As the broadcast kicked off, eagle-eyed viewers quickly noticed the duo squeezed into a single chair, appearing completely at ease.
The moment unfolded while host Trevor Noah joked about the grand scale of the Grammys, with Swift, 35, and Erivo, 38, laughing along and sitting effortlessly upright despite their tight seating arrangement, as seen in footage shared by Entertainment Tonight.
At one point, the two even seemed to recreate the now-famous «holding space» meme from Wicked’s press tour, with Swift playfully grasping Erivo’s finger as they smiled.
But why were they sharing a seat in the first place? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Erivo arrived late, scanning the venue for her assigned table when Swift spotted her, scooted over, and warmly welcomed her to sit down.
Per the official seating chart, Erivo was originally set to sit with Queen Latifah and John Legend, while Swift’s table included Margaret Qualley and her longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff.
Journalist Chris Gardner, who captured the moment, tweeted: «Late arrival for Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, who is accompanied by an escort to a table joining Taylor Swift, who waves her over.
#Grammys Trevor Noah still hosting as she sneaks over.»
It was a major night for both stars—Swift celebrated six nominations, while Erivo delivered a powerful performance alongside Herbie Hancock in a tribute to the late music legend Quincy Jones.
She opened the segment with a heartfelt, piano-driven rendition of Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me to the Moon, before Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monáe, Lainey Wilson, and Jacob Collier took the stage to continue the tribute.
Swift, as always, was at the center of several viral moments throughout the night—from clinking glasses with Jay-Z after Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Album of the Year win to even catching a stray piece of a performer’s wardrobe mid-show!
