Selena Gomez remembers her dancing at Emilia Pérez’s audition for «Crazy»
Gomez recalls being told to «go crazy» by director Jacques Audiard in order to be considered for the position of cartel wife.
According to Selena Gomez, she went «crazy» during her audition with Emilia Pérez.

During the highly anticipated film’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday, October 21, Gomez told The Hollywood Reporter that writer-director Jacques Audiard pushed her to aim high in order to land the role of Jessi Del Monte, a cartel leader’s wife.
The 32-year-old actress said that she was unaware of the notion that Audiard was pursuing, saying that he had advised her to «act intoxicated and throw your shoes if you want… just go crazy.»

And I thought, «Oh, okay.»
The character’s most significant moment, a musical performance called «Bienvenida,» in which Gomez expresses her annoyance at her spouse’s new existence as a trans woman, was what she performed at her audition.
«Audiard said, ‘Go crazier,’ after I did it once. And I went for it wholeheartedly.

The Only Murders in the Building Emmy candidate went on, «I was standing on furniture and I blacked out, but I was just singing my heart out and dancing like a mad woman—and it was a very crazy experience.»
She said, «I was honored when he finally chose to accompany me.» Gomez shared a video of the tearful moment she learned she had been cast in the role on Instagram in August.

«They didn’t need it,» Gomez said to The Hollywood Reporter when asked whether she provided her costars with any voice coaching or suggestions. To begin with, did you see Zoe? No tips are needed for that girl. I need the advice, if nothing else.
The Wizards Beyond Waverly Place actress stated that she didn’t want to be «presumptuous» about the movie’s chances of winning any accolades.

«I just wanted to say how happy I am that people are getting it the way they are.»
Netflix features Emilia Pérez. November 13.
