Prince Archie’s Sweet Reaction After Accidentally Breaking a Christmas Ornament of Queen Elizabeth
Meghan Markle once surprised Prince Harry with a thoughtful Christmas gift: a small ornament featuring Queen Elizabeth. Unfortunately, the keepsake didn’t last long.
In his 2023 memoir *Spare*, the Duke of Sussex, 40, reflected on the family’s first Christmas in the United States in 2020. At the time, Meghan gifted Harry a festive decoration that humorously resembled his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
“I roared,” Harry wrote in his memoir. “What the—?”
Meghan had spotted the ornament in a local shop and thought it would be a fun addition to their holiday. “I held it up to the light. It was Granny’s face to a T,” Harry recalled, adding that he proudly hung it on a prominent branch of their Christmas tree. “It made me happy to see her there. It made Meg and me smile.”
However, the ornament’s fate took a sudden turn thanks to their then-19-month-old son, Prince Archie. While playing near the tree, Archie accidentally knocked it over, causing the ornament to fall and shatter.
“I heard a smash and turned. Pieces lay all over the floor,” Harry wrote, describing Archie’s innocent attempt to fix the situation. The toddler grabbed a spray bottle, thinking water might repair the broken decoration.
Meghan quickly intervened, humorously telling him, “No, Archie, no — do not spray Gan-Gan!”
Harry swept up the shattered ornament with a dustpan, finding the moment both amusing and surreal.
Since moving to the U.S., the Sussex family has celebrated Christmas stateside, marking a departure from traditional royal festivities at Sandringham, which they last attended in 2018.
Speaking with *Marie Claire* last month, Meghan, now 43, shared her excitement for the holidays as their children grow older.
“I love the holidays,” she said. “Every year it gets better. At first, as a mom, you’re just enjoying having them there, even if they don’t fully understand everything.
But now we’re at the age where I can’t wait to experience Christmas through their eyes.”
With Archie, now 5, and Lilibet, 3, the Sussex family is embracing their own festive traditions, creating cherished memories in their California home.
