My ex-husband left me everything in his will, leaving his widow and their newborn with nothing. Now, I’m torn between keeping it all or giving it to them
Rachel’s ex-husband left her everything—his house, stocks, and even his cherished vintage car. But the real shocker? He left nothing to his new wife and their newborn child.
When Rachel received the call from the solicitor, she thought it was a mistake. Todd, the man who once claimed he couldn’t afford child support, had left her his entire estate.
After 15 years of building a life together, Todd had walked away for his 25-year-old secretary, Angela. Now, after his passing, he had chosen Rachel over his new family.
Then came the knock at the door. Angela stood there, seething. «You think you can take everything from us?» she spat. What would you do in Rachel’s place—keep it or give it up?
«Lower your voice,» Rachel warned, noticing her daughter Katie at the window. «My kids are inside.»
Angela’s laugh was bitter. «Now you care about kids? What about MY child’s future? Todd wouldn’t have left you everything unless you manipulated him! Give me what’s ours, or I’ll take this to court!»
«I didn’t know Todd left me anything until today,» Rachel shot back. «I didn’t even know he had a will.» «Don’t lie!» Angela yelled.
«I’m his WIFE, and I just had his son. Do you think it’s fair for you to take everything from us?» Her words stung, and Rachel felt a pang of guilt for the innocent baby.
But then Katie called from inside, asking if everything was okay, and Angela turned her fury on her. «Your mother’s trying to steal everything your father left us,» Angela hissed.
«Get off my property!» Rachel snapped, shaking with fury. «How dare you turn my child against me?» «I don’t need to turn anyone,» Angela sneered. «You’re doing it yourself.»
Rachel told Angela to take it to court, and Angela promised, «You won’t win. I’ll make sure everyone knows the kind of person you really are!»
The next day, Rachel called Todd’s attorney, who explained that Todd had left her everything along with a letter explaining why. In his letter, Todd revealed that he wanted to make things right before he passed.
He had admitted his distrust of Angela and apologized for the past. He left everything to Rachel because of the 15 years they shared, and he regretted letting her go.
Tears welled up in Rachel’s eyes. «Damn you, Todd, for saying that now,» she whispered. But Angela wasn’t backing down. She filed a lawsuit to contest the will, claiming it violated her and her child’s rights.
Rachel knew she had to fight back to protect her kids’ inheritance. In court, Angela played the role of the grieving widow to perfection, cradling a baby in her arms.
«Your Honor,» her lawyer said, «my client is a widow with a newborn, and the ex-wife is trying to steal their inheritance.»
But something didn’t add up. The baby’s curly red hair didn’t match Todd’s or their children’s. During a break, Angela cornered Rachel. «You think you’re clever,» she hissed.
Rachel held her gaze. «At least I’m not pretending with someone else’s baby.» The DNA test confirmed it—the baby wasn’t Todd’s. Angela stood speechless, and Rachel kept the estate.
She sold Todd’s prized car and put the proceeds into college funds for her kids. The rest of the estate was divided equally, securing their future.
One evening, Katie found Rachel staring at a photo of Todd. «Are you okay?» she asked. «Your dad wasn’t perfect, but he tried to do the right thing,» Rachel replied, pulling her daughter close.
As for Angela, she quickly moved on to her next “project,” trying to rebuild her credit with someone new. Todd might not have been perfect, but in the end, he gave Rachel and the kids a shot at a better future. Sometimes, karma works itself out.
