Kristin Chenoweth has responded to Ariana Grande’s recent comment about the character Glinda from Wicked. Grande mentioned that in the new film adaptation, Glinda «might be a little in the closet.»
Kristin Chenoweth, who famously originated the role of Glinda in Wicked on Broadway in 2003, has responded to Ariana Grande’s recent comment about her character’s sexuality in the upcoming Wicked movie.
In an interview with Gay Times on Nov. 21, Grande, along with her costar Cynthia Erivo, discussed their characters’ relationships.

Erivo, 37, described her character Elphaba as someone who “loves Glinda” and embraces love in all its forms, emphasizing their strong, unbreakable bond.
Grande, 31, agreed, adding that their relationship was built on “trust and truth,” creating a safe space for each other. She then joked, “Glinda might be a little in the closet. You never know!”
In the same Gay Times interview, Ariana Grande shared her thoughts on the bond between Glinda and Elphaba, describing it as «true love» that goes beyond sexuality.

She explained, «It’s just a deep safety within one another, which is why they [fans] probably ‘ship it.'»
Wicked, the beloved Broadway musical-turned-film, explores the backstory of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. It reveals that Elphaba and Glinda were once close friends, but circumstances beyond their control led them down vastly different paths, ultimately turning Elphaba into the iconic «evil» witch seen in The Wizard of Oz.

Off-screen, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have demonstrated a strong, supportive friendship, frequently appearing together at press events in matching outfits and offering each other encouragement during challenging times.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked also features a star-studded cast including Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Bowen Yang, Peter Dinklage, and Michelle Yeoh.
