Kate Middleton writes a compelling message about the foundation of her royal duties: «We must invest in humanity.»
Kate Middleton is taking her commitment to supporting society’s youngest members to the next level.
The Princess of Wales, 43, is introducing a new framework to raise awareness about the critical role emotional and social skills play in shaping future mental and physical well-being.
She emphasizes how crucial it is to get it right for children aged 0-5 years, as this period is foundational to lifelong development.
In the coming days, Kate will be actively promoting this new phase of her campaign, marking her gradual return to public life after a year spent largely out of the spotlight.
To further outline her vision, Kate has shared her thoughts in the foreword of The Shaping Us Framework, a report created by a diverse coalition of academics, clinicians, and human development professionals from both the UK and around the world.
This comes alongside new research from the Royal Foundation’s Centre for Early Childhood, which highlights the ongoing need to shift public perceptions about the importance of early years development.
According to the annual survey, while 94% of people acknowledge the significance of social and emotional skills for adult happiness, 42% admit to having little or no understanding of how these skills develop in early childhood.
The *Shaping Us* initiative launched in January 2023, with Kate taking the campaign on the road to locations like Leeds.
Despite health challenges, including an abdominal operation and a cancer diagnosis, Kate has remained closely involved with the campaign, focusing on early childhood development with her staff during her recovery.
In her foreword to the new report, Kate writes, “Modern society is complex.
At times, it feels as though the world is filled with mistrust and misunderstanding, leaving many feeling isolated and vulnerable during tough times.
The consequences of this—poor mental health, addiction, and abuse—can be devastating for individuals and society.”
“If we are to tackle these issues meaningfully and create a healthier society—both physically and mentally—we need to reset, restore, and rebalance.
We must invest in humankind,” she continues.
Kate stresses the importance of developing and nurturing social and emotional skills, stating, “At the heart of this is the need to prioritize these skills if we are to thrive.”
She also points out that while the report, released on February 2, demonstrates the importance of early childhood in laying a strong foundation, it also highlights that these skills continue to evolve throughout adulthood—meaning it’s never too late to develop them.
While still gradually returning to public engagements after announcing her remission from cancer on January 14, Kate is beginning to increase her visibility.
Last week, she made three public appearances, including a visit to Tŷ Hafan children’s hospice in South Wales, where she became the patron, and to a textile factory on January 30.
Earlier, on January 27, she joined her husband, Prince William, at a London event commemorating Holocaust victims and survivors.
