Julia Roberts reveals the reason she refused to take her clothes off on screen. for the first time she decided to take a bold step
Julia Roberts has revealed the real reason she won’t do nude scenes.
The actress, 56, has avoided any racy roles and even in her famed role as a prostitute in Pretty Woman, she remained fully clothed.
Interviewed by screenwriter Richard Curtis for her British Vogue cover debut, she has revealed she wants to champion other women who feel pressured to strip off on camera.
Asked if she has ‘any feelings of responsibility to other women’ with her behaviour in her movies, Julia explained: ‘My G-rated career…
‘You know, not to be criticising others’ choices, but for me to not take off my clothes in a movie or be vulnerable in physical ways is a choice that I guess I make for myself.’
She went on to reveal that her staunch stance could have something to do with her surprise link to to a feminist icon.
Julia revealed she did her family tree with Finding Your Roots star Dr Henry Gates and declared: ‘I am DNA cousins with Gloria Steinem.’
The Oscar-winning actress previously revealed that she didn’t want to strip off for the sake of her children.
When asked if she would consider doing a nude scene in a film, she said: ‘You know it’s not really what I do, so if you are going ask me to do it, you have to expect it to be toned down. You know, as a mum of three, I feel like that.’
Julia married cameraman Danny Moder in 2002 and welcomed twins Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter in 2004. There years later they welcomed son Henry.
The radiant redhead went on to credit her husband with keeping her looking youthful as when asked for the key to her looks, she mused:
‘Good genes, leading a life that is fulfilling, and I have said this – and I say it usually as kind of a joke – but I do believe in the love of a good man.
‘I believe that my husband loves me and cares for me in a way that makes me feel deeply, deeply happy. ‘
Julia and Danny met on the set of The Mexican in 2000, where she was acting alongside Brad Pitt, and he was working as a cameraman.
