Jennifer Lopez appears at American Music Awards to celebrate the show’s 50 years, unfazed by Ben Affleck fiasco

Lopez appeared in a filmed interview at the 50th anniversary special — which aired on Oct. 6 — to honor the history of the Academy Awards amid her breakup from Ben Affleck.

Jennifer Lopez is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the American Music Awards by reflecting on some of her most memorable experiences there.

During the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special on Sunday, Oct. 6, Lopez, 55, became sentimental during a filmed interview, sharing her best recollections of appearing at the AMAs numerous times throughout the years.

She began by reflecting on the significant anniversary and how she used to watch the show as a young child with huge ambitions.

«It’s really amazing, right? The American Music Awards have been around for fifty years. «I remember watching them at home as a little girl,» she remarked, before recalling her first appearance at the event in 2001.

«What?» she asked with a laugh, as vintage footage of her performance from that year appeared on screen. «It was so long ago — but the energy in the room was very electric.»

Lopez, who donned a pink pussy-bow silk shirt for the segment, then reflected on her 2011 win for Favorite Latin Artist.

«Winning a fan-voted award is really significant since it comes straight from the people for whom you create music. «It’s just humbling,» she said of the honor.

In other parts of her interview, the «Can’t Get Enough» singer reflected on her time as the ceremony’s host in 2015, calling it «a huge honor» and mentioning her numerous clothing changes throughout the night.

«I decided that I was gonna change for every time I came out there [onstage],» she told the crowd. «We did this dance medley to all of these amazing songs from that year, and I wanted everyone to feel that love and energy.»

She then suggested, «Maybe I’ll do it again someday.» Who knows.

Lopez also paused to contemplate on the impact of music. «Music really does have the power to heal and uplift and to connect us, and the AMAs have been showcasing that for half a century now,» she said. She added:

«And I’m excited for the next 50 years of music — and magic.»
