Heartbreaking lyrics from Taylor Swift’s initial version of a song were removed
Taylor Swift is sharing glimpses into her creative process with the public.
On Saturday, August 3, the 34-year-old 14-time Grammy winner revealed on her Instagram Stories that she will be offering the «First Draft Phone Memo» versions of select songs from The Tortured Poets Department for a brief period of time.

Swifties have already pointed out that a line from the song «My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys» is significantly more tragic than what ended up in the finished version, which was released on April 19.
Swift sings, «Just say when, I’d play again / He was my best friend down at the sandlot,» in the album version’s outro.

But Swift didn’t initially mention the sandlot, choosing instead to sing, «He was my best friend and that was the worst part,» as heard in the phone memo version, which has a slower tempo and is performed acoustically on a piano.
Swift explained the song’s significance when her track-by-track breakdowns debuted on iHeartRadio in April, stating that it’s a tale told from the viewpoint of a kid’s toy.

The song «Being Nobody’s Favorite Toy Until They Break You and Then Don’t Want to Play with You Again» is written by Swift, who co-wrote or wrote every song on TTPD.
According to Swift, the song is about how many of us are in relationships where we are so valued by a person in the beginning, and then all of a sudden, they break us or they devalue us in their mind.
