Fans quickly come to Sabrina Carpenter’s defense after the singer receives a «catfish of the year» nomination.
Hannah Pearl Davis, known online as Pearl, has amassed over 1.52 million subscribers on her controversial YouTube channel, where she regularly shares her conservative views.
Her outspoken opinions have stirred up controversy before, including past remarks that sparked outrage, such as claiming divorce should be illegal and that women should relinquish their right to vote.
Recently, the 25-year-old Espresso hitmaker, Sabrina Carpenter, found herself the target of Hannah’s criticism on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Hannah posted side-by-side images of Sabrina, one showing the singer in full glam this year, and the other a throwback of her with minimal makeup.
The YouTuber initiated her shocking thread by announcing her «Catfish of the Year» award, listing various celebrities she felt were deserving of the title, including Sabrina.
Hannah wrote, «Now that 2024 is coming to a close, it’s time to vote for our most important award: Catfish of the year. A special thank you to filters, plastic surgeons, and FaceTime apps for making this all possible.»
Along with the photos of Sabrina, Hannah added, «Next up we have Sabrina Carpenter. A phenomenal singer and pop sensation, but under all that makeup, she’s just average.»
Fans were outraged by Hannah’s harsh comments and rushed to defend Sabrina.
One person responded, «Sabrina actually looks better without all the makeup… and you are just a sad little human.» Another chimed in, «Nah, she’s pretty and even prettier without the makeup.»
Other celebrities targeted by Hannah in her «catfish» nominations included Sydney Sweeney and Paige Spiranac.
Despite the negativity, Sabrina’s career continues to thrive.
2024 has been her most successful year yet, with the British Phonographic Industry reporting that female artists spent a record 34 weeks at the top of the charts, surpassing the previous year’s 31-week record.
Sabrina’s singles contributed to this achievement, with her sixth studio album, *Short n’ Sweet*, being the third most popular of the year.
Three of her hits—»Espresso,» «Please Please Please,» and «Taste»—spent a combined 21 weeks at the top of the singles chart.
