Exclusive. Travis Kelce Grotesquerie Scene is an ‘imitation’ to Taylor Swift. Reveals Ryan Murphy

The show’s creator commented in on a popular Swiftie hypothesis concerning one of Kelce’s first moments in the FX series.

Travis Kelce sped away with Niecy Nash-Betts in a getaway car shortly after making his debut in Grotesquerie’s third episode. Naturally, Swifties were on high alert.

In the scene, which aired on October 2, Kelce’s character Ed Lachlan assisted Nash-Betts’ Lois Tryon in leaving the hospital after she smashed her car while driving intoxicated.

In a dream-like scenario, the couple exited the hospital hand in hand before getting into a red convertible and driving away.

Ryan Murphy, who developed the series and wrote the part expressly for Kelce, told The Hollywood Reporter that the moment is «a little Taylor Swift nod» since the protagonists climb «into the red getaway car.»

The connection is, of course, to Swift’s 2017 album Reputation’s song «Getaway Car.»

Following the episode’s airing earlier this month, fans were eager to pick out the apparent allusion to the Swift song on social media.

A fan page for the 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end shared a video of the scenario on X (previously Twitter), and numerous comments noted that Kelce was having his own cinematic getaway vehicle moment.

Another fan suggested the link on TikTok, commenting over a clip from the show, «Does this look familiar, Swifties?! 😍😍.»

«This can’t be a coincidence!» the admirer exclaimed in the post’s caption.

Since Kelce’s debut as Ed Lachlan on the FX series, the show’s universe has fallen apart. On the October 16 episode, it was revealed that Lois (Nash-Betts) had been in a coma the entire time, and the violent killer she’d been hunting was just a vision in her head.

The disclosure also provides context for the getaway vehicle scene, as Murphy told THR that Kelce and Nash-Betts «drive off to this black limbic space, which makes absolutely no sense.» But it makes sense now that you know Lois is in a coma.»

Grotesquerie airs on FX every Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET and is available on Hulu the following day.
