Exclusive. Meghan Markle spoke to teenagers about being one of the most bullied people in the world

The Duchess of Sussex has been frank about her experiences of internet bullying over the years.

Meghan Markle met with young girls to discuss an important subject ahead of International Day of the Girl.

Larissa May, creator of #HalfTheStory, an organization focusing on strengthening young people’s connection with technology, told Vanity Fair about Meghan, 43,’s intimate interactions with a group of girls when visiting the nonprofit Girls Inc. in Santa Barbara, Calif., on October 2.

«We did an activity where we talked through a bunch of scenarios, and Meghan talked about being one of the most bullied people in the world,» she said.

«We had girls wave these little emoji signs and talk about how each one of these scenarios would have impacted them emotionally,» she told.

#HalfTheStory and Girls Inc., led by Dr. Stephanie J. Hull, formed a collaboration financed by the Duchess of Sussex’s Archwell Foundation, Melinda French Gates’ Pivotal Ventures, and the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation. The agreement was revealed on Friday, October 11, International Day of the Girl.

«We really wanted to make sure that the teens at #HalfTheStory were able to give their input on the type of experience that we would create,» she told me. «Ultimately, we thought the best way to do that was to create a space of vulnerability.»

Meghan has spoken openly about her personal experiences with online abuse.

«When you’ve been through any level of pain or trauma, I believe part of our healing journey—certainly part of mine—is being able to be really open about it,» she said in an August interview with Jane Pauley on CBS Sunday Morning.
