Demi Moore responds to her inaugural Oscar nomination, saying it’s «beyond anything I ever imagined.»
Demi Moore is celebrating a monumental achievement with her first-ever Oscar nomination.
Just moments after being named one of the five nominees for Best Actress at the 2025 Academy Awards on January 23, the star of *The Substance* shared her heartfelt reaction to the news.

«Being nominated for an Oscar is an incredible honor, and these past few months have been beyond anything I ever dreamed of,» Moore, 62, expressed in a statement.
«There are truly no words to fully capture the joy and gratitude I feel for this recognition—not just for me, but for what this film represents. I am deeply humbled.»
Reflecting on the challenging times in Los Angeles, Moore added, «This is a time of incredible contrasts, and right now, my heart is with my friends, family, neighbors, and community here in L.A.»

She referenced the destruction caused by fires in many parts of the city, noting, «The fires have devastated so many lives, but to see the way our community has come together fills me with awe. It’s a reminder of the resilience and compassion that define us.»
In *The Substance*, a pitch-black horror comedy, Moore plays Elisabeth Sparkle, an actress who faces an unexpected setback when she’s fired from her exercise show by her boss in search of younger talent.

Desperate to maintain her relevance, Elisabeth turns to a mysterious drug known as the «Substance,» which causes her to create a younger version of herself, Sue (played by Margaret Qualley).
The film’s complex exploration of vanity and identity has earned Moore some of the best reviews of her career, as well as a Golden Globe win for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical.
Moore, who began her acting career over 40 years ago, was visibly moved when she accepted the Golden Globe, admitting, «I really wasn’t expecting that. I’m in shock right now.

After 45 years of working in this industry, this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor.»
Reflecting on her long career, she shared how a producer once dismissed her as a «popcorn» actress, leading her to question her place in the industry.
«At the time, I took that to mean I could do successful, commercially successful movies, but I couldn’t be truly acknowledged.

I believed that, and it corroded me over time. A few years ago, I wondered if maybe this was it, maybe I had done all I was supposed to do.»
This nomination marks a powerful moment in Moore’s remarkable journey, one that proves resilience and dedication can bring new recognition, even after decades in the industry.
