Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Have Settled Their Divorce After Over 8 Years of Intense Legal Battles (Exclusive)

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally reached a divorce settlement after more than eight years of legal battles, following Jolie’s initial filing to end their two-year marriage over irreconcilable differences.

Jolie, 49, and Pitt, 61, officially concluded their divorce on Monday, December 30, according to statements from Jolie’s legal team.

«More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left their shared properties and since then, she has been focused on healing and finding peace for her family,» Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, said in a statement .

«This marks just one part of a long process that began over eight years ago. Honestly, Angelina is exhausted but relieved that this chapter is finally closed.»

A source close to Jolie added, «She doesn’t speak negatively about [Pitt] either publicly or privately. She’s done everything she can to remain positive after such a difficult period.»

A representative for Pitt declined to comment or confirm the details.

Jolie filed for divorce on September 19, 2016, shortly after a private flight during which she claimed Pitt was abusive toward her and their six children. Pitt was not charged after investigations at the time, and Jolie chose not to pursue legal action.

In early 2017, the couple released a joint statement announcing that they would handle their divorce through private mediation, keeping the details of the process confidential through the use of a private judge.

«The parties and their legal teams have agreed to preserve the privacy of their children and family by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge to make legal decisions and help resolve any outstanding issues,» the statement read.

«The parents are committed to acting together to support recovery and reunification.»

In the months leading up to the 2017 privacy agreement, the couple was engaged in tense divorce negotiations, particularly regarding custody of their children, and exchanged harsh accusations in court filings.

By January 2017, they agreed to seal any sensitive records related to their six children—Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

The ex-couple was legally declared single in 2019 after their divorce was bifurcated. Since then, Pitt has been romantically linked to jewelry executive Ines de Ramon, 34, since 2022.

In the years that followed, Pitt and Jolie continued to clash over custody and legal matters concerning their $164 million French estate and winery, Château Miraval. In February 2022, Pitt filed a lawsuit against Jolie over her sale of her share in the winery.

Jolie countered with a lawsuit of her own, accusing Pitt of conducting a «vindictive war» against her.

The lawsuit, filed by Nouvel, a company founded by Jolie, claims that Pitt orchestrated a plan to take control of Château Miraval after their split in 2016.

The battle over the winery has continued into 2024, unrelated to their divorce.

In November, Jolie won a legal victory when a judge ordered Pitt to provide documents, including emails and texts, that her lawyer, Paul Murphy, believes will support her claims of abuse and cover-ups by Pitt over the years.

At the same time, Pitt scored a win in the ongoing winery dispute when Jolie’s motions to dismiss the lawsuit were rejected, and the case neared trial.

This development suggested that there may be a written agreement between the exes regarding the sale of their shares, which Pitt’s camp argues supports the legitimacy of his claims.

Pitt’s legal team has dismissed Jolie’s request for documents as a «sensationalist fishing expedition.»
