As a child, Sabrina Carpenter was «certain» that Paul McCartney would be her «future husband» after listening to this Beatles track.

Paul McCartney has been married to Nancy Shevell since 2011, but there was a time when Sabrina Carpenter believed she might have a shot with the legendary «Hey Jude» singer.

During an interview on the Dec. 12 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Carpenter, 25, shared how hearing a specific Beatles song as a child led her to develop a deep admiration for McCartney.

«When I was really young, my dad introduced me to ‘Rocky Raccoon,’ and I was so captivated by the song and its writing that I fell in love with Paul McCartney,» Carpenter recalled, speaking about the 82-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee.

«I was certain he was my future husband,» she shared. «But he was much older, and I was just a kid.

I didn’t realize how much older he was because I was looking at all these pictures.»

At that time, Carpenter believed McCartney was «young» and «only about 10 years older than me.» «I didn’t quite grasp the concept of math,» she joked. «I was just a child.»

Earlier this year, Carpenter had the opportunity to meet McCartney at the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year event, which honored Jon Bon Jovi before the Grammy Awards. They even took a photo together.

«I was overwhelmed with emotion, and he was just so down-to-earth and charming,» remembered the Short n’ Sweet singer.

«It felt like I was stepping into a different reality… kind of like the Upside Down, but much happier than in Stranger Things.»

Carpenter also mentioned that McCartney had a way of making everyone in the room feel «noticed and valued.»

In a recent interview with Vogue Arabia, the former child star shared that she made it onto her own Spotify Wrapped list of top artists this year, thanks to her hit song «Espresso.»

«It’s funny because when I first saw it, my immediate thought was, ‘Oh no, I can’t share this, since I’m on my own list. It feels a bit arrogant,’» Carpenter told the publication.
