Angelina Jolie is ‘crushed’ by her Oscars snub for the Maria biopic, feeling like ‘Hollywood is backing Brad Pitt.’

Angelina Jolie is reportedly ‘heartbroken’ after being snubbed for an Oscar nomination for her lead role in *Maria*, with sources suggesting Hollywood has rallied behind her ex-husband Brad Pitt.

Despite receiving praise for her portrayal of the legendary opera singer Maria Callas in the Pablo Larraín-directed biopic, it was announced on Thursday that Jolie’s performance did not earn a Best Actress nomination for the 2025 Oscars.

The role, which was deeply personal to Jolie, saw her learn opera singing and go through a challenging press cycle to promote the Netflix film.

The snub came shortly after she was also overlooked for a nomination at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Although Jolie did secure a Best Actress nomination at the Golden Globes, the award ultimately went to Fernanda Torres for *I’m Still Here*.

Sources close to Jolie told Page Six that the Oscar snub could be especially crushing for her. «Angelina will be devastated… she really wanted that nomination,» one insider revealed.

«She put so much into promoting the film, including appearances on *Jimmy Fallon*—her first late-night show in over a decade—and several magazine covers.»

A separate insider speculated that Jolie’s exclusion could be due to her contentious divorce from Brad Pitt, which was finalized last month after a lengthy battle.

The source argued that while the foreign press tends to favor Jolie, Hollywood has remained loyal to Brad.

«This just shows that Hollywood is Team Brad,» the insider said. «The Globes showed that the foreign press loves her, but Hollywood? Not so much.

Nobody was going to go against Brad to give Angelina a vote… people just love Brad.»

Despite the drama surrounding her snub, a source pointed out that this year’s Academy Awards still feature plenty of first-time nominees, showing that the industry is in good health.

Instead of Jolie, the Best Actress category at the 97th Academy Awards will feature actresses like Demi Moore (*The Substance*), Cynthia Erivo (*Wicked*), Mikey Madison (*Anora*), Karla Sofía Gascón (*Emilia Pérez*), and Fernanda Torres (*I’m Still Here*), with the ceremony set to take place on March 2.

Reflecting on her journey, Jolie once shared that her career as an artist has pushed her to rediscover parts of herself.

«To be pushed again at this time in my life, to do something that terrified me and I wasn’t sure I could do, is the greatest gift,» she said, highlighting the challenges and growth that come with her craft.
