An exclusive source reveals that Angelina Jolie’s children urged her to stand up for herself during her divorce from Brad Pitt.
According to a source, Angelina Jolie’s children encouraged her to be more vocal in defending herself publicly during her ongoing divorce from Brad Pitt.
«She’s been trying to stay positive after a tough time,» the source shared. «The kids have witnessed how some people hold so much power that their voices and their pain often go unheard.»
«They’ve wanted her to speak out for herself, to stand up for what she’s gone through over the years,» the source continued.
«But she’s always reminded them that the focus should be on changing the laws, not telling public stories.»
Jolie, 49, and Pitt, 61, first met on the set of *Mr. & Mrs. Smith* in 2005 and tied the knot in 2014.
They have six children together: Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 16. Jolie filed for divorce on September 19, 2016, following an alleged incident on a private plane where Pitt became intoxicated and was said to have been abusive toward her and their children.
No charges were filed after the investigation, and Jolie chose not to press any legal action.
In 2017, the couple agreed to keep court documents confidential and appointed a private judge to handle any legal decisions, aiming to preserve the privacy of their family.
On December 30, 2024, it was confirmed that Jolie and Pitt had reached a divorce settlement, officially concluding that phase of their separation.
Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, shared in a statement that since filing for divorce, Jolie has focused on «finding peace and healing for their family.» He added, «Angelina is exhausted, but relieved that this part is over.»
A source close to Pitt described Jolie’s «one-sided attacks» throughout the divorce, which they claim have distorted the facts, causing significant collateral damage to those involved.
It was reported in July 2024 that Pitt has «virtually no contact» with their adult children, although he maintains visitation rights with their younger children, in line with an agreement with Jolie. Several of the kids have taken steps to remove «Pitt» from their last names.
This strained relationship with his children «pains him,» a source previously shared. «He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.»
Reflecting on the years of divorce proceedings, an insider noted, «It’s really sad for the children, but also for the parents.
Divorce, especially one this public, is tough for the whole family… Both of them care deeply about the children.»
Jolie has said in recent interviews that her children are «especially shy, very private people,» and expressed hope that as they grow older, they will be able to keep their privacy intact.
Jolie and Pitt are also engaged in a separate legal battle over a French winery they once co-owned, though it is unrelated to their divorce.
Jolie’s lawyer in that case said, «She wants this to end, the children want this to end, and Mr. Pitt should focus on healing their family, not pursuing lawsuits.»
