A heartwarming moment during the ongoing Eaton Fire in Altadena, California, captured the compassion of a firefighter as they battled the blaze.

On January 8, ABC World News Tonight shared footage of the firefighter, clad in full gear, using one hand to spray water on a burning house while gently comforting a lost dog with the other.

The black dog wandered through the fiery neighborhood before approaching the firefighter, who calmed the animal before continuing the firefighting efforts.

The Eaton Fire, which began on January 7, has scorched an estimated 10,600 acres, with authorities still working to contain the flames. Local animal rescue groups later rescued the dog and brought it to safety.

The video resonated with many viewers, who praised the firefighter’s act of kindness amid the devastation.

The L.A. wildfires have left thousands of homes destroyed, including those of many celebrities, and have deeply impacted animals.

Some veterinarians have opened their doors to pets affected by the fires, with one facility taking in dozens of dogs and cats.

Horse owners have also scrambled to relocate their animals as stables have burned. Evacuees can bring their pets to designated shelters across Los Angeles County.

As of Thursday, the Eaton Fire remains 0% contained, with nearly 900 personnel assigned to fight the blaze. The Palisades Fire continues to burn as well, affecting thousands of acres and adding to the widespread destruction.
