A 92-year-old man’s last wish is to hold his wife’s hand one final time before passing.

A deeply moving photo of an elderly Chinese couple, married for nearly 70 years, holding hands in the ICU just before passing has gone viral, touching hearts worldwide.

The touching moment was captured and shared by Wang Yanfang, the head nurse at the intensive care unit of Yinzhou Hospital in Zhejiang Province, eastern China.

Feng Ming, the 92-year-old husband, had been admitted to the ICU due to heart failure. His health rapidly worsened, and his organs began failing, eventually leading to a lung infection.

Unable to speak and reliant on life support, Feng’s family decided to stop the treatments and bring him home.

But before leaving the hospital, he had one final wish—to see his wife, with whom he had spent 66 years of marriage.

Zhang Ping, Feng’s 95-year-old wife, was also in the same hospital, being treated for a fractured femur.

Wang, the head nurse, explained to New China that the ICU visiting hours were from 3:00 to 3:30 pm, but Feng’s condition was too critical to wait.

So, a special arrangement was made to allow the couple to meet for what might be their last time.

Zhang Ping was transferred by stretcher from the 14th floor to the ICU, where she held her husband’s hand one last time.

Wang recalled the touching scene, where Zhang spoke to Feng in their local dialect, reassuring him, “Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine.” Feng was overcome with emotion, and hours later, he passed away peacefully at home.

Wang expressed gratitude for being able to arrange this poignant meeting, saying, “We made an exception to let them meet, and I’m glad we did. It was the right decision.”

This story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. It’s comforting to know that Feng and Zhang shared a lifetime of love and companionship, right up until the very end—truly a testament to everlasting love.
