A 10-year-old girl came to the park every day and slept on a bench for 15 minutes — and one day I couldn’t resist finding out why 🤔😲
I approached her gently once she had woken up and asked softly:
“— Excuse me, do you mind if I ask something? Why do you sleep here every day? Can’t you rest at home?”

She looked at me with a calmness far beyond her years. After a brief pause, she whispered:
“— I have a little sister now. Mom is very tired. Dad isn’t around. She hardly sleeps.
I try to help. When my sister cries at night, I get up, hold her, rock her, so Mom can get a little rest. In the morning there’s school, then homework, then I still have to help at home.
I don’t want Mom to see that I’m tired. But here… I can rest for a little while. No one sees.”
I didn’t know what to say. My throat tightened, goosebumps ran down my arms.
This little girl — just a child — was carrying a burden many adults couldn’t handle.

And yet, there were no complaints, no self-pity — only care for her mother.
Since then, I bring her hot cocoa and a pastry. We don’t talk about it.
We just sit together on the bench for a while. Then we go on our way.
It turns out that sometimes, the strongest people are the smallest.
